When Jackie started to go along to the LEAP family support group, she realised how much of her life had been controlled by her relatives’ drinking. Through the support of the group she is managing to deal with issues in a positive way, and is no longer on the medication she had been on for the past 30 years.

There are lots of stories of recovery out there. Proof it is possible, and also that it looks different for different people.
Jed took his first drug when he was 16 and by the time he was 18 he was taking heroin. When he was 25, and with the help and support of his family, he came off heroin. Now he is a qualified counsellor and a member of our board.
Rita went to her first family support group meeting nine years after her son started taking drugs. She says, ‘I was given hope that me and my son would recover from his sickness. My son is now 26 and I am happy to say he has not taken drugs for the last six months.’
