When I first started volunteering with Scottish Families I was a third year Psychology student looking to gain some experience. Who would’ve known I’d now be working in my second part-time role with them! Scottish Families have supported me throughout my studies allowing me take on more responsibility which has helped me to gain a place on the MSc course I am currently studying. I enjoy helping family members as often they do not recognise that they can receive support for themselves and it is very rewarding to be part of such an excellent service. The helpline training delivered by Scottish Families has also helped me gain confidence in talking to family members. Having been a volunteer since 2013 I am proud to be a member of such an important organisation and would recommend it to anyone who like to gain more experience in skills such as empathy, communication and signposting.
