Do Your Own Fundraising
Hosting your own event is a great way to bring your friends, family, colleagues, or anyone together and have fun while making a difference. No matter the size and shape of your event, we are very grateful for your support.
If you’re interested in raising money for our work but not sure what to do, here are some ideas from our previous fundraisers:
We were chosen as one of Glasgow Barclays’ charities of the year in 2018. The staff team put on a Halloween bake sale with a donation collection for our work. The team raised an incredible £410 that was then match-funded to £820!
Coffee mornings are a great way of getting your friends or your colleagues together, eating cake and biscuits and raising a bit of money! We had our own coffee morning in December 2018 with the other charities in our building. We raised £480 (we really recommend having your own home-baking as this went down a treat!)
Birthday Fundraiser on Facebook
An incredible £6,038 was raised in 2018/19 through Facebook fundraising! A huge thank you to all the supporters who chose us as their charity. If you have a Facebook account and your birthday is coming up, why not raise some money for our work? https://www.facebook.com/fund/ScottishFamiliesAffectedByDrugs/
Family Friendly Event
Our fundraising volunteer Lauren hosted her own event – The Teddy Bear’s Picnic in early 2018. The event raised just under £150 and information about our services was shared with families.
‘The experience has been great from start to finish, working with such a supportive team and putting on such a fun event, ultimately raising funds for a brilliant charity.’ – Lauren
Lauren’s Fundraising Event – Teddy Bear’s Picnic
‘I’ve been volunteering for Scottish Families for nearly a year and a few weeks ago I ran my first fundraising event for them, a teddy bears picnic! Working with their [former] Fundraising Officer Katie, we spent months planning the event and came up with ideas for games, prizes and entertainment for the day. Katie, Sarah and all the other staff at Scottish Families have been so wonderful to work with. I’ve done a fair bit of volunteering over the years and they really have been so supportive and just generally lovely to work with.
In the lead up to the event, we contacted a number of businesses to collect raffle prizes and raise the profile of the charity. We got some great stuff from the likes of Tunnocks, Everyman Cinema and Glasgow Science Centre (so many businesses donated which was just fantastic!) and had quite a successful raffle. In keeping with the theme of the event, we also collected over 50 teddies for a teddy bear tombola which proved to be a hit with the children that came along.
On the day we had a mountain of delicious home baking for people to choose from and made sure all our guests were very well fed and watered.
We raised just under £150 on the day and shared information about the charity to some families so the event was a success. The experience has been great from start to finish, working with such a supportive team and putting on such a fun event, ultimately raising funds for a brilliant charity.
If there is anyone looking for a great way to utilise their spare time, I’d encourage them to volunteer with Scottish Families.’ – Lauren
