In partnership with South Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership, My Support Day (peer-led family support) and Liber8 we have secured funding from the national Challenge Fund to establish a new two-year Family Support Development Officer post, working across South Lanarkshire. This new post will develop, deliver, support and promote a range of family support and engagement for family members who are affected by someone else’s substance use. The post will operate in partnership with My Support Day peer-led family support, and work as part of The Beacons recovery support model across South Lanarkshire, hosted by Liber8.
The post forms part of a new collaborative family support and engagement initiative to embed a Whole Family Approach across The Beacons, evidencing the benefits of this for people and systems. The post will reach across The Beacons in Blantyre (main base), Lanark, Cambuslang and East Kilbride, as well as through community-based assertive outreach across the area. Direct support from Scottish Families will focus on supporting adult family members aged 16+ years, however the wider role involves developing and supporting a Whole Family approach across The Beacons, including through whole family activities and events.
The post-holder will be responsible for acting as a first point of contact for referrals, queries, advice and expertise; delivering initial assessments and one to one intensive support for family members aged 16+ years; referring on for other support as required; offering advocacy and self-advocacy support; and leading the development of a Whole Family approach across The Beacons. The role also involves reaching across wider family and community networks to identify and support opportunities to grow and develop family support and engagement across The Beacons and South Lanarkshire’s communities.
