Bereaved Through Substance Use 

Are you interested in learning more about bereavement from drug or alcohol use? Our session will help you to explore this sensitive subject and to understand the unique and difficult impact that a loss can have on friends and family.

Who is this for?

This course is primarily designed for professionals, but it is also suitable for anyone interested in learning about Bereaved Through Substance Use. This could be families, professional members of the workforce, people in recovery, or the wider community.

What do we cover?

By completing this training, you will be able to:

  • Define a drug or alcohol-related death.
  • Identify key overdose risks.
  • Recognise stigma and isolation about a drug or alcohol-related death.
  • Recognise practical issues specific to a drug-related death.
  • Recognise key messages from ‘Bereaved Through Substance Use’.
  • Recognise self-care and support for the workforce impacted by a drug or alcohol-related death.

Why is this important?

Talking about bereavement can feel difficult and needs to be handled sensitively. This course will help you to understand more about the complex processes behind grief and bereavement and will enable you to feel more confident in talking about this issue with people you are supporting.

Costs

The Bereavement Training course is a 4-hour session costing £600 with a maximum of 15 participants.

We have worked with families and organisations that help and support families for over fifteen years. We have been given invaluable information from family members to be able to provide these courses to the alcohol, drug and wider workforce, and to have people living with someone else’s alcohol or drug use recognised and supported.

We can deliver learning & development online using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Depending on exact requirements and expenses, our courses are 4-hour sessions costing £600. Each course can take up to fifteen members of staff. For larger groups, please contact training@sfad.org.uk to discuss requirements
