Adult Carers

A carer is someone who provides support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. Carers may even be juggling paid work with their unpaid caring responsibilities at home.

How we can help.  Here at the Carers Centre we can provide –

  • 1:1 Support
  • Advice on different benefits and help filling in forms
  • Completion of Carers Support Plans
  • Respite Opportunities
  • Weekly Support Groups
  • Social and Leisure Opportunities throughout the Year
  • Fuel and Energy Advice

Young Carers Support

A young carer is someone who looks after a member of their family who is ill, frail, disabled, suffers from mental ill health or a substance misuse problem.

Young Carers have told us that being a Carer can be hard sometimes.  They may not have much time to play with their friends

  • They might find it difficult to get their homework done on time
  • They might get bullied at school

If this applies to you, then the East Ayrshire Carers Centre is here to help.

We offer one-to-one and group support to our young carers. We run age specific groups every week at our centres in Kilmarnock, Cumnock, New Cumnock and Dalmellington. You can come along and meet other young carers who know and understand how you feel. Come and socialise over a nice home cooked meal and most importantly have fun!

Young Adult Carers Support

Alongside our Young Carers programme, we also provide specific services for Young Adult Carers, aged 18-25. This includes

  • personal and social development training
  • short breaks
  • social and respite activities
  • 1:1 support
  • counselling services
  • training programmes
  • back to work programmes
  • access to further education, training and employment
